Easy Protein Chocolate Mousse

In the world of plant-based recipes, chickpeas and beans absolutely rule. They are a great source of protein, you can find them anywhere, they're super easy to cook, cheap, delicious and you can make so many different things from them. Gods, bless pods!

Now, if you've never heard of aquafaba then let me give you a quick tour of this magical liquid. Aquafaba is found in canned chickpeas. I bet that every time you've opened a can, you've smelled it and instantly dumped the liquid out. Well, that very liquid can make vegan dreams come true! Meringue, nougat, fudge, ice-cream and marshmallow fluff, all can be made vegan with this miracle water.

This recipe makes use of aquafaba to turn chocolate into mousse, trust me it tastes nothing like chickpeas!


Easy protein mousse - fancy without shopping

Simply delicious, protein packed and fluffy chocolate mousse.

Prep Time - 5 minutes Cooking time - 5 minutes Waiting time - 1 hour (min.) Total Time - 10 minutes

Servings 4

Course Dessert, Lunch, Dinner Cuisine Vegan Does it last? Up to 4 days in the fridge


  • 150g of dark chocolate

  • 150ml of aquafaba

  • pinch of salt

  • ½ tsp of cinnamon

  • 1-2 tbsp of maple syrup (optional)

  • ¼ tsp of chilli powder (optional)

  • Fresh berries (optional)


  1. Melt chocolate in a bain marie (place a pot with water on medium heat, a metal bowl on top without it touching the water) stir till completely melted.

  2. Let it cool down till lukewarm but still liquid.

  3. Pour aquafaba in a medium-large bowl and whisk (using mixer) with salt until stiff (should be like whipped cream).

  4. Using a spatula gently fold aquafaba into the cooled, melted chocolate until uniform

  5. If you want to add optional ingredients, do it while whisking. Don’t worry - you can’t overwork it ;)

  6. Pour final result into 4 glasses and leave in the fridge for a minimum of 1 hour.

  7. Serve with fresh berries
